Reading lots of posts, it seems conventional wisdom that provided the Powerpoint files are less than 2Gb, all should be OK but I can't get anywhere near this. Split the files into the smallest sections that I can handle so further splitting is not an option. But the moment I try to run the File/Compress Pictures mode, Powerpoint just crashes and brings up the usual "Sorry but. I have some files that are about 900Mb and they run fine in normal Powerpoint mode (no speed problems, loading etc). There are several image editors offer the Mac version, such a Photoshop. When it comes to compress PNG image on Mac OS X/11, you have less options than doing it on PCs. I am surprised that such a RELATIVELY small file size causes a major corruption! I am using a MacBook Pro Retina with i7 processor, 16Gb RAM and 500Gb Flash Drive so the computer should not be a limiting factor. PowerPoint is also the tool to help to compress the images on Windows computer. If I keep the file size below about 350Mb, the file will compress nicely but above this, theĬompression action will crash Powerpoint. However, there seems to be a file size limit beyond which Powerpoint crashes on compression and sends a report to Microsoft. The files I am developing are large because they contain a large number of high resolution photos (.jpg) and I want to keep the original images in the master Powerpoint files then compress to 220ppi orġ50ppi for the working presentations. Fortunately, PowerPoint offers the image compression utility that compresses all pictures in the presentation in a single step and reduces their resolution to the resolution specific for the type of output you specify (e-mail, Screen, or Print). Both of these settings prevent downsampling. I am using Office 365 on a Mac - Powerpoint 2016. In PowerPoint 2016 or 2019 for Mac, please choose File>Compress Pictures and set the Picture Quality: dropdown to either High Fidelity (maximum ppi) or Use Original Quality.
